Another option is the sometimes quirky mule chest. The mule chest has no standard set-up, really, but it is often defined by a small square storage area with a door instead of a drawer. This door area can be set in the middle of the piece or in one of the upper corners. This set-up leads to the piece having a few different sized drawers and gives it a bit of an antique or hand-crafted look. Mule chests are usually larger than standard chests and many can work in the living room as well as the bedroom.
The two common elements of these Hope Chests are the top closing lid and the dark wood staining or paint. Dark coloring was necessary for the design elements to stand out, especially for the inlaid motifs. Beautiful hardwoods of Walnut, Oak and Eastern Pine were mainly used in the construction of these finely crafted Blanket Chests during this early time period.
Once you get your drawers emptied out take a look at what you have. Do you have a wide ranging collection of pens youve collected from banks, stores, and other places? It is okay to pare down. You dont have to keep every pen, pencil, highlighter, or marker in your drawer. Toss them, give them away, or find a Tupperware to store them on a high closet shelf until you run out of the handful you keep in your drawer.
