Walnut was a much used wood type in years past for hope chests since it was so readily available. Now, this wood type can be fairly expensive for fully aged wood furniture. This has put Cherry and Oak in high demand. These hardwoods are easier to find in quality plank pieces which have been kiln dried. This is a much quicker way to 'age' wood. It can easily take a year or more to 'age' wood in the normal fashion.
Hope chest furniture can be used as coffee tables, side boards, entryway sideboards, end tables, buffet tables and as an extra cozy seating area. The extra storage that they provide is a plus since many people reside in smaller living areas than what they would prefer. Added to their ability to double as a storage unit along the top area used as a much needed space, blanket chests give every home warmth and a welcoming atmosphere with styling dating back to the 1700's and 1800's. This 'ageless' styling in a huge reason that blanket storage chests retain their standing as one of the most favored types of furniture.
Its that time of year again. Spring is in the air and its time for your annual spring cleaning. Its time to go through that junk drawer. You know which one Im talking about-the drawer that you put everything that youre not sure if youre going to use it again, but you dont want to throw it away-just in case. The one with the old twist ties, that single battery or those miscellaneous keys that surely go to something you see where Im going with this. If your junk drawer is like mine, you probably could dump the whole drawer in the garbage and not even miss anything in it. Junk has a way of reproducing itself into brand new junk.
