Along with the sulfur inlay used in their beautiful designs, ivory, shell, contrasting colored wood and bone were additional materials placed into the wood chiseled incisions. Many of the blanket chests crafted in Pennsylvania by German immigrants were artfully inlaid with leaf and floral designs flowing out from vases. The vases would have been created out of one of the additional materials.Sulfur inlay was also used to create string inlay and inlaid keyhole escutcheon in geometric patterns as an additional design element. This inlay was very fine in detail so that all of the designs created were very sophisticated in appearance.
As the number of trunks and chests available has been rising in the past few years, the prices have also been falling simultaneously. Some of these cost less than 100, whereas the truly fancy ones can go up to a couple of thousand pounds. The type of material used, the additional features of the trunks, the amount of detailing on the chests - all these are factors that determine the total cost of the trunk. A wooden trunk built with inlay work will cost much more than a steel trunk built with casters and simpler locks.
These Early American Hope Chests were not made with cedar on the inside. Cedar linings and bottoms are the additions of present day craftsmen to their Blanket Chests. This is a favorite feature among buyers since cedar eliminates insect pests and releases a wonderful aroma every time the lid is opened. This fresh smell can be rejuvenated by simply roughing the cedar with small grit sandpaper.
If you approach the situation with negative thoughts, such as, I hate parking in this part of town. Ill never find a spot, your subconscious will cause your eyes to see the parking spots that are taken. If you change your approach and think positive thoughts, such as, Im sure Ill find parking easily enough. Many have gone before me and they have found parking, your subconscious will cause your eyes to see the opportunities, such as, a parking garage or a car that is just leaving a suitable parking spot.
